GCSE/A Level Recording

Your GCSE/A Level recordings can be done on your premises or at The Backstage Centre 

  • a relaxed but professional atmosphere for your students
  • Professionally recorded within the specification of the exam board
  • CDs produced on request with introductions if required

Songwriting, Composition and Arranging Workshops

This workshop can either be carried out at The Backstage Centre or on your own premises. 

Songwriting:

Basic:

  • song structure: what are the structural elements of a song
  • coming up with ideas
  • the fastest way to write a song

Advanced:

  • chord progressions and chord relationships
  • choosing instruments
  • arranging the song

Composition:

  • basic theory - relationships between scales and chords
  • coming up with ideas
  • quick tricks to change up the texture
  • structures
  • how to quality control your composition and make decisions

Arranging

  • reharmonisation 
  • introductions, transitions, modulations
  • harmonising vocals and instrumental parts
  • advanced harmony

Recording, Audio Editing and Mixing Workshops

This workshop can either be carried out at The Backstage Centre or on your own premises. If you choose to run the workshop at your school or college you will need access to Logic Pro X and your own basic recording equipment. 

All or some of the following topics will be covered:

Recording:

  • recording basics
  • microphone placement
  • what microphones do what job

Audio Editing:

  • how to manually edit audio
  • how to programme and edit MIDI
  • how to manipulate waveforms - time stretching, flexitime and the potential pitfalls

Mixing:

  • the four fundamentals of mixing: EQ, compression, reverb and effects
  • how each of these tools are used to enhance and create a professional sounding mix
  • how to get your mix ready for mastering
